Your journey takes you to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, home to Nelson's famous flagship, the HMS Victory. Nearby is the first iron-hulled armoured warship, HMS Warrior, berthed at a special jetty. Henry VIII's flagship, the Mary Rose, is one of the best known exhibits since it was recovered from the mud in the Solent in 1982.
Your guide will meet you at London Victoria and accompany you on the coach transfer to Portsmouth. On arrival at Portsmouth you are free to visit the ships, the museum and souvenir shops as you wish (please note: you will be given an allocated time for HMS Victory). You will be transfered by coach (approximately 40 minutes) from the Dockyard to the British Pullman waiting at Southampton Eastern Docks, for your return journey to London.
A glass of chilled champagne is served as soon as you board the train. This is followed by a three course supper accompanied by half a bottle of wine. The return journey is steam-hauled by a steam locomotive.
Smart but practical day wear is appropriate. You are asked not to wear jeans. Please remember you will be outdoors for much of your time at Portsmouth.
.
This journey is rated as very good for passengers with special access needs. The HMS Victory tour involves climbing several flights of fairly steep steps. A video tour is provided on the Lower Gundeck for visitors who use wheelchairs or those who are unable to walk around the ship. Toilets for disabled visitors can be found in Boathouse No.7, Victory Arena and the Royal Naval Museum.
